About Crosswords

These crosswords are hard to put down: the clues are written with a sense of humor, so solving them is a pleasure rather than a dictionary exam.

Besides classic crosswords, the game has two more puzzles: codewords and Word Fit. That is more than 2,000 levels in total, enough for a long while.

How to play

  1. Select a word in the grid and its clue appears at the bottom.
  2. Type the letters on the keyboard. A solved word turns green.
  3. Solved letters also fill the crossing words, giving you free hints.
  4. Zoom into a big grid with the magnifier button.
  5. Hints reveal a random letter or remove unneeded letters from the keyboard.

Game modes

Crosswords

510 crosswords, 10 in each issue. Each level gives up to three stars, and stars in an issue unlock gifts.

Codewords

500 levels where every number in the grid stands for a letter. Crack the code and the grid fills itself in.

Word Fit

1,000 levels. All the words are given below; drag them into rows of the right length. You cannot lose, so experiment freely.

Features

  • Clues with humor instead of dry dictionary definitions.
  • Stars, gifts, trophies and IQ statistics.
  • Grids of every size, from quick small ones to big ones.
  • A vertical layout that is comfortable on phones.

Tips from Brocco

  • Start with short words and the ones you are sure about. Their letters help with the long ones.
  • In codewords look for the most common letters: E, T and A.
  • In Word Fit place the longest words first. They have the fewest rows that fit.

Crosswords FAQ

What is a codeword?

A crossword without clues. Each cell holds a number, and the same number always means the same letter. From a few revealed letters you restore the whole grid.

Can I lose in Word Fit?

No. A word only goes into a row of the right length, so try as many times as you like.

Where does the word "crossword" come from?

The first puzzle of this kind was printed in a New York newspaper in 1913 and called a "word-cross". The name soon flipped to "crossword".

Do I need to sign up?

No. Open the game and start solving, your progress is saved in your browser.
